Bears Finish In Tuscaloosa

Tuscaloosa, AL.  – The Mercer softball team finished at the Crimson Classic this afternoon with an 8-0 loss against #9 University of Alabama. The Bears went 2-3 at the tournament.
How It Happened
GAME FIVE, vs University of Alabama
    The Bears started out the game with a three up three down. Sophie Sumner caught a runner stealing with the help of Rebeca Laudino and two ground-outs retired Alabama scoreless at the bottom of first. The second inning brought nothing offensively for either teams. Alabama came into the bottom of the third to get three runs on four hits with one left on base. Tori Hedgecock singled through right for Mercer's first hit of the game at the top of the fourth.Â
    Alabama kept their bats hot with one homerun that brought in two runs to further their lead to 5-0 on no-outs. The Elephants picked up a run on an RBI and another home run. Mercer was able to get out of the fourth with a ground out to Laudino trailing 0-7. Morgan Hall singled to center field to record Mercer's second hit of the game. In the bottom of the fifth, Alabama juiced the bases and brought one home on a wild pitch to take the game 8-0.

    The Bears will have one contest against Clemson University in Clemson, SC on Wednesday, March 8 before heading south for the University of Florida Tournament (March 10-12) in Gainesville, FL.Â
