Bears Split Georgia Southern Doubleheader

How It Happened
GAME ONE
   Rebeca Laudino singled to start the game. Parris Wiggs reached on an error, but both were left on. The Bears served a three up three down to end the first scoreless. Kassidy Moore singled to start the second and was advanced by Avery Barton and Lillian Wilkerson. A single from Alyssa Woods brought Moore home. Mercer held with a runner at second to lead going into the third 1-0. Bailey Ledvina singled and came all the way home with double from Kylie Helm. Georgia Southern came back with four runs on four hits to finish the third leading 4-2.  Â
    Wilkerson singled through two gloves into left field. Woods reached on a fielder's choice, but was left on. The Eagles got one run on two hits to further their leading going into the fifth, 5-2. Wiggs singled to start the top, but was left at first. Mercer held two runners stranded in the bottom of the fifth still trailing 5-2. Wilkerson got on after being hit by a pitch. Woods reached on an error, but was left on. Bears keep one at second to finish the sixth. Georgia Southern served a three up three down to retire the Bears, 5-2.Â
GAME TWO
   Laudino singled and was advanced by Wiggs and Helm. She was stranded in scoring position. Bears sat the Eagles back down in order to finish the first scoreless. Tori Hedgecock singled to left field. Moore reached on a fielders choice, but was out in a double play. Mercer finished the second with two left on. Laudino picked up her second hit of the game in the top of the third. A 1 2 3 for the Eagles got the teams into the third still scoreless.
   Ledvina and Hedgecock walked to get on base at the top of the fourth. Madi Wicker came in to pinch run for Ledvina. Moore reached on a fielders choice and would be left on base with Sumner. Bears served their second three up three down in the fourth and fifth. Helm singled to right with Emma Dorval coming in to pinch run. Dorval was advanced by Ledvina and joined by walked Hedgecock.Â
   Moore recorded her first homer of the season to bring them both in. Barton singled and stole to second. The Bears finished the top of the six leading 3-0. Nothing happened for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth. Laudino picked up another single and was advanced by Wiggs and Helm. Ledvina bunted to bring in Laudino. Hedgecock followed up with another single to bring Wiggs home. Mercer finished the inning with two runs on three hits. While Georgia Southern did get one in during the bottom of the seventh, it was not enough and the Bears clinched a 5-1 victory.Â
Up Next
    The Bears will be at home this weekend, April 22-23, to host Western Carolina University. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 2:00 p.m. with the final game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
