4/2/2023 5:33:00 PM | Men's Tennis
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis program (8-11, 2-1) returned to winning ways with a 6-1 victory over UNCG (4-18, 0-6) on Sunday at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. The Bears won all six singles matches to claim the conference win.
Â
Nemanja Stefanovic and Marceau Foulihoux easily beat Harrison Gwynn and Wyatt Cannon at the third doubles slot, but neither of the other two Mercer pairs earned a win, securing the doubles point for the Spartans. This would be the only point UNCG earned on the day.
Â
Foulihoux tied the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court four over Christopher Johns. The sophomore continues to lead the way for the Bears with his 14th singles win of the season.
Â
With a 6-1, 6-4 win on court three by Stefanovic, Mercer took the lead and never surrendered it. Samuel MacLeod continued the straight-set victory trend by beating Devon Moskowitz 6-3, 6-1 on court five.
Â
Samuel Barrow was the first three-set contest to finish, clinching the match for Mercer. The junior took down Andrew Black 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 for his eighth singles win of the season.
Â
Both Lucas Dini and Mariano Argote dropped the first set to UNCG but fought back to win in three sets. Dini finished next on court two with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over John Gabelic. Argote earned the final point for the Bears, defeating Tymofiy Khrystyuk 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 on court one.
Â
UP NEXT: Mercer hits the road for a three-game away stretch, beginning at Wofford on Saturday, April 8.
