
Men’s Tennis Set for Trio of SoCon Matches

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis program will travel throughout South Carolina this week for a trio of Southern Conference matches. The Bears will begin at The Citadel on Monday, April 10 at 1 p.m. Play continues on Tuesday, April 11 at Wofford at 3:30 p.m. Mercer will wrap up at Furman on Thursday, April 13 at 3 p.m.

RECENT ACTION
The Bears are coming off of a 6-1 win over UNCG on Sunday, April 2 after sweeping all six singles courts. Marceau Foulihoux and Nemanja Stefanovic were the only players to go 2-0 on the dayÂ

Mariano Argote won 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 at the first singles slot, and Lucas Dini fought to a win on court two 3-6, 6-3, 6-0. Stefanovic, Foulihoux, and Samuel MacLeod each beat their opponents in straight sets while Samuel Barrow rounded out the successful day with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 win on court six.

SCOUTING THE CITADEL
The Bulldogs are coming off of a 6-1 loss to Furman and a 5-1 loss to the College of Charleston. The Citadel earned its first conference win since 2017 with a 5-2 victory over UNCG in March.

Hayden Shoemake and Sebastian Kamieniecki played doubles on court one and defeated Furman 7-6. Shoemake and Kamieniecki are 11-9, 2-2 together at the first doubles slot this season. Zvonko Bencedic and Ted Bagwell are 9-8, 2-3 this season while Lucas Robins and Noah Van Dyke are 2-4, 1-0.

Shoemake is 19-13, 2-3 in singles play and usually plays at the first slot. Bencedic is 11-20, 2-3, Robins is 13-20, 0-5 and Kamieniecki is 2-0, 1-0 as he just started competing in singles. Bagwell is 13-19, 0-5 and Van Dyke is 1-2, 0-1.

SCOUTING WOFFORD
The Terriers have played five SoCon matches in a row and have gone 1-4 in conference play with the lone victory against UNCG.

Will Fullett and Ian Rasheed are 6-9, 1-3 together and have switched between the first and second doubles slots. Alex Horn and Robbie Young are 2-1, 2-1 together as the two just got paired up at the second doubles slot. Ashe Ray and Max Graham also just began playing together and are 2-2, 1-2.Â

Ray has competed at singles one all season and is 5-13, 1-3 while Callum Rendle has played at the second slot, going 4-11, 0-1. Fullett is 7-10, 1-3 at on courts three and four while Horn is 10-8, 2-2 at the fourth and fifth slots.Â

Furman has also played all of its SoCon matches in succession, and the team has a record of 2-3 in conference play.Â

Cole Burnam and Thomas Kennedy are 8-11, 1-3 at the first and second doubles slots while Elijah Protzky and Jerry Barton are 10-7, 2-3 also on courts one and two. Alex Han and Ben Cahill are 4-4, 1-3 at third slot.

Barton has competed on court one in singles for most of the season and is 9-11, 4-1 with Protzky at singles two for most of the season, going 6-12, 2-3. Kennedy has been mainly at the third slot and is 8-10, 3-1 while Burnam is 5-11, 0-2 at the fourth slot. The fifth and sixth slots vary every match but John Rado has recently competed at five and is 4-8, 2-2 on the season with Han at the sixth slot, going 3-4, 1-0.Â
