MACON – The unbeaten Mercer softball team will continue its season-opening 11-game home stand this weekend when the Bears bunker down to host the first of two installments of the 3-day, 4-team MUSB Invitational at Sikes Field.
Â
Tickets for the event are still available and can be purchased at the gate. A 10-game tournament pass will be on sale for $20, 2-day passes are $15 and a 1-day pass is $10. Fans unable to make the trip to Middle Georgia can still follow all of the action for free via live statistics links provided by the MU athletics department.
Â
Army and Western Kentucky will kick off the round-robin tournament on Friday at 10 a.m. MU will play the first of its two games on Friday at 3 p.m. when it locks horns with Western Kentucky at 3 p.m., and will take the first again at 5:30 p.m. against Big 10 foe Iowa.
Â
Mercer is 5-0 for the first time in 27 years after rolling through last weekend's Heart of Georgia Classic in Macon. The Bears tallied a pair of victories over both Evansville and North Carolina A&T, while also staging a late comeback to fuel an extra-innings victory over Maine on Saturday. The Orange & Black amassed a .421 team batting average on the weekend, while also combining for 12 doubles and 13 home runs.
Â
Junior right-hander Grace Roark logged a pair of wins in 12 innings pitched for the Orange & Black at the round-robin event, while reigning Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week Madison Starr struck out four and yielded just two hits across five innings of work in Sunday's mercy rule triumph over North Carolina A&T.
