Scheck, Kersey Take Home Mercer Student-Athlete Of The Week Honors

MACON – Katie Scheck's impressive performance on the links and Braydon Kersey's dominance on the diamond led to the pair of Mercerians being named the Mercer Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending in February 22.
Scheck, a graduate senior from Ooltewah, Tennessee, finished tied for third individually out of 80 competitors at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational this past weekend. Scheck finished the 54-hole event with 12 birdies, the most in the field, and outscored three Top 100 players with a score of even par.
The Southern Conference named Kersey the Player of the Week after his dominant performance for the Mercer baseball team last week. Kersey mashed his first collegiate home run, a go-ahead grand slam, in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap off an 8-1 comeback win over Columbia on Friday night. The sophomore from Alpharetta, Georgia went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and a two-run double in the Bears' 20-6 win on Saturday before going 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base at the plate and taking the mound in the ninth inning to record the first save by a Bear in Sunday's win. Kersey posted a .400 batting average (6-for-15), .500 OPS, nine RBI, two home runs, a double, three walks, a stolen base, an inning pitched, a strikeout and a save to push the Bears to a 4-0 week.
