Starr Nabs SoCon Pitcher Of The Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer softball team's unblemished run through the season-opening Heart of Georgia Classic paid additional dividends on Monday afternoon when right-handed pitcher Madison Starr was tabbed as the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Starr, a junior from Vidalia, Ga., struck out four and limited North Carolina A&T to just two hits and no earned runs over five innings of work on Sunday in just her second career start. Starr sat down the first seven batters she faced in the outing and faced the minimum in the first, second and fifth innings.

Mercer (5-0) is unbeaten through five games for the first time since the 2000 campaign, and registered its first perfect regular season tournament run since February 2018 over the weekend at Sikes Field. MU posted two wins over both Evansville and North Carolina A&T, as well as an extra-innings triumph over Maine on Saturday evening.

The Bears will be back in action at home again this weekend when they bunker down to host the MUSB Invitational I at Sikes Field. MU is slated for a pair of contests against both Iowa and Western Kentucky, as well as a Saturday afternoon tilt with Army.
