| Â Â LAST TIME OUT | |
| Redshirt freshman Rachel Sysum's 1-out sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning plated Olivia Lenzen with the eventual game-winning run as the Bears rallied behind a solid outing from right-hander Grace Roark to upend Wofford, 2-1, in the rubber game of a weekend series on Sunday afternoon at Sikes Field. The decision gave Mercer its second series win of the season, while also marking MU's 15th home victory of the campaign – the most for the program in eight seasons. | |
| Â Â ABOUT MERCER | |
| The Bears (15-17) will head to the capital city on Wednesday still seeking their first win away from Macon this season. MU is 0-3 in true road contests this season, with all three of those setbacks coming at the hands of Power 4 teams (NC State x 2, Georgia), and is 0-6 in neutral site outings including setbacks to a trio of nationally-ranked teams. Mercer logged its first Southern Conference series win of the season with wins in the last two games of its series with Wofford on Saturday and Sunday. Junior Olivia Lenzen, a former non-scholarship player of the Terriers, hit .555 (5-for-9) with two home runs and five RBI in three starts against her former team, while Grace Roark allowed just one run across her fifth complete game of the season in Sunday's series-clinching win. | |
| Â Â SCOUTING GEORGIA TECH | |
| The Yellowjackets (19-19) dropped all three games of its Atlantic Coast Conference series at Louisville over the weekend, including a 3-1 setback on Sunday in which the Ramblin' Wreck mustered just a trio of hits. Regardless, Georgia Tech has still put up 5.6 runs per game through 38 games this season and already boasts 45 stolen bases. Seven players show batting clips at .333 or better, including sophomore Alyssa Willer who boasts a team-best .396 batting average to go along with 15 extra-base hits and 15 RBI. Redshirt sophomore Gracyn Tucker has showcased a majority of the power, however, with a .346 batting average that complements 20 extra-base hits, including a team-high 10 homers, and 20 RBI. In the circle, Sophomore Madalyn Johnson has pitched twice as many innings (103.1) as any other hurler on the staff while compiling a 9-8 record and a .373 earned run average. | |
| Â Â MERCER/GEORGIA TECHÂ SERIES | |
| Georgia Tech leads the all-time series, 54-16, but Mercer took both meetings with the Yellowjackets last season – an 8-5 win in Atlanta on March 25 and a 7-3 victory over GT in an elimination game at the NCAA Regional in Gainesville, Fla. The Yellowjackets posted a 41-4 advantage in the series from 1989 to 2007. | |
| Â Â ON DECK | |
| Mercer will continue its 5-game road trip this weekend when it heads to southeast Tennessee to square off with Southern Conference rival Chattanooga (12-20-1, 1-5 SoCon) in a Friday/Saturday series at UTC's Frost Stadium. | |
