MACON – The Mercer softball team will interrupt an otherwise lengthy home stand on Wednesday when the Bears pack up their show and make the quick trip to Athens to take on 11th-ranked Georgia at Jack Turner Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

| Senior Avery Barton's leadoff homer in the bottom of the first gave Mercer a lead that would last a majority of the afternoon, but visiting Samford hit a pair of 2-run homers with two outs in the top of the sixth inning to claim a 4-1 victory in the weekend rubber game on Sunday at Sikes Field. The Bears opened the series with a 6-4 win in the front half of a Saturday doubleheader, but dropped the nightcap of the series-opening twinbill, 15-1. | |

| The Bears (13-15) have dropped seven of their last 10 contests, and will make the short trip north on Wednesday searching for their first win away from Macon in 2026. Mercer showcases the Southern Conference's second-best home runs per game (1.04) total, while also ranking in the top half of the 8-team league in seven other statistical categories as well, including team slugging percentage (.450). Junior Olivia Lenzen sports a team-best .371 batting average to go along with three homers and 10 RBI, while senior Avery Barton carries a .303 batting average with a SoCon-leading 10 home runs and 23 RBI. Sophomore two-way player Grace Jones has struck out 15 batters and yielded just 10 hits in her last three appearances and 13 innings of work from the circle. | |

| The Bulldogs (23-8) have won four of their last five games, including a series win over 12th-ranked Mississippi State over the weekend at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens. Georgia will tote an NCAA-leading .987 fielding percentage into Wednesday's contest, but rank among NCAA Division I's top 30 teams in a dozen other statistical categories, including team slugging percentage (13th, .615). Led by a trio of players boasting hitting clips of .403 or better, the Bulldogs have compiled a .346 team batting average (20th NCAA) through 31 games, with 11 players registering at least one home run in 2026. The Red and Black is just as stout from the circle, holding opponents to just a .249 batting average while recording a 3.39 team earned run average. | |
