Segreti Stuns As Bears Breeze Past Blue Hose, 23-13

MACON, Ga. – Meghan Segreti had a career day as she led the Bears with seven goals, nine points and 12 draw controls as Mercer cruised past Presbyterian, 23-13, to open the 2017 season with a bang.

Segreti set career highs in goals, points and draw controls, while tying her career high of two assists. Her 12 draw controls also set a Mercer single-game record, besting the previous mark by five.

Kate Leone added four goals and Lindsey Zeltwanger notched three while Eva Thorn dished out five assists in her debut as a Bear. Thorn's five assists ties Mercer's single-game record. Haleigh Wurzel had eight saves between the pipes and led Mercer with eight ground balls, setting a new single-game record in ground balls. Audrey Robertson set a career high of four caused turnovers while also tying Mercer's single-game record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer came out hot and scored two goals just 61 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead early in the game. Presbyterian added a couple of goals, sandwiching one of Mercer's before the Bears offloaded three straight to stretch their lead to 6-2 with 15:52 to play in the first half. Each team scored three more goals before halftime as Mercer led 9-5 at intermission.

The Bears scored in spurts all throughout the second half and only once let the Blue Hose score two goals in a row. Mercer dominated in the second half, outscoring Presbyterian 14-8. The Bears also led in draw controls in the second half, 14-9, and were 2-for-2 on free position shots.

A total of nine Mercer players scored goals and seven tallied assists as three rookies scored in their collegiate debuts. Additionally, six Bears scored multiple goals on the afternoon.
