Mercer Pours on 21 runs in Rout of Savannah State
2/26/2017 11:29:00 PM | Softball
Rodriguez’s grand slam, 11-run inning highlight the win
Â
The Bears (8-7) plated seven runs in the opening frame before pouring on 11 more in the third to give starting pitcher Megan Bilgri more than enough run support to work with en route to her third win of the year. Nine Bears collected at least one hit and seven had at least one RBI as they received some help from five Savannah State (0-16) errors throughout the mercy-rule induced contest.
Â
Maxine Rodriguez had a game-high five RBIs, keyed by a grand slam in the third inning that made it a 17-0 advantage for Mercer. Emma Andrew went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in the first inning while Megan Lane added four RBIs herself, three coming on a bases-clearing double.
Â
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Emma Andrew put together one of the more well-rounded offensive games by a Bear this season, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBIs and a home run. The home run all but put the nail in the coffin for Savannah State by making it a 7-0 game in only the bottom of the first inning.
Â
STAT OF THE GAME
Twenty-one. Mercer's 21 runs scored Sunday night are the most since it defeated none other than Savannah State on Feb. 16, 2008, by a score of 22-0.
