Abby Walsh knocks home pair of runs; Megan Lane swipes three bases
Â
With the game tied 7-7 in the bottom of the seventh with one out, Taylor Miller slapped a groundball to third base. After Amanda Schwartz was tagged out by the third baseman while attempting to score, Miller drew a throw to second base that allowed Rud, who started on second, to advance home for the winning run.
Â
Mercer (9-7) withstood an up-and-down contest that featured four lead changes and a late-inning tie, eventually rallying from a 7-6 deficit with a run in bottom of the sixth and seventh frames. The Lady Rattlers (2-16-1) took the lead on back-to-back home runs from Toni Anderson and Alexis Day in the top of the sixth, but Abby Walsh stepped up for Mercer in the home half with a RBI-single that scored Megan Lane.
Â
Maxine Rodriguez (1-2) earned the win with five innings of relief work for starter Megan Bilgri, who lasted two innings.
