UCF WILSON/DEMARINI TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
Â
IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE
Speed kills. After leading the Southern Conference in stolen bases for a second straight year in 2016 (76 swipes in 89 attempts), Mercer is on pace to surpass last year's total. The Bears are 54 for 60 in stolen base attempts, ranking ninth nationally with 2.45 steals per game. Meghan Rud (18), Taylor Miller (12) and Megan Lane (8) are the top three stolen base threats in the conference as Rud's individual total is more than all but two SoCon teams.
Â
GETTING YOUR HACKS IN
Mercer's .305 team batting average is the top mark in the SoCon as the Bears are the only team hitting above .300. Four Bears – Rud (.403), Miller (.388), Lane (.356) and Quirisa Mauga (.344) are all above .300 while Danielle Castleberry (.296) and Abby Walsh (.294) are just under the mark.
2017 Preseason All-SoCon First Team selection Taylor Miller started her season with a 10-game hit streak and already has six total games with at least two hits. She's reached base in 13 consecutive games, maintaining her steady approach in the Bears' lineup.
Â
FINDING THE GROOVE
After a sluggish 10-game start to the season and her collegiate career, Abby Walsh has developed into one of Mercer's top bats over the last two weeks. Since Feb. 24, the freshman outfielder is batting .444 with 14 RBIs and four home runs, providing a necessary pop in the middle of the lineup.
