Mercer improves to 3-0 in home tournament
Macon, Ga.  – The Mercer Bears remained victorious against opponents on second day of the Bears Classic. Mercer defeated Iona 7-4 followed by a 6-4 win over Stetson.Â
Game One: Mercer 7, Iona 4
Rebeca Laudino walked to get the bears on base in the bottom of the first. Kenlie Harvey also walked after Laudino stole second.
The Bears were unable to score in the first but got on the board in the second. Grace Prom tripled to right center and scored on a double to center field by Annie Potter. Tori Ash walked and advanced to second with a reach by Alyssa Woods on a fielder's choice to third.Â
The Gaels tied the game in the third.  Haley Weaver and Jessica Chilcott singled back-to-back. A ground ball to third by Natalia Meray advanced Chilcott and Weaver. A ground ball to the shortstop by Jamie Sheeran scored Weaver.Â
The Bears responded in the third starting with walks from Prom and Potter with two outs. Ash reached on an error by third and Prom scored on a walk by Woods. A single from Laudino turned into a three RBI, scoring Potter, Ash, and Woods. Mercer 5, Iona 1.Â
Brianna Bailey and Weaver and Chilcott completed three singles in a row with a scoring run from Bailey.Â
The scoring inning trend continued in the bottom of the fourth. Morgan Hall singled to third base as the leadoff. Prom was hit by the pitcher with an error on third base reaching Potter to load the bases. Ash singled to the left field, scoring Hall.Â

The board wouldn't change again until the bottom of the fifth. Laudino walked and reached third on two consecutive wild pitches. An error on the short stop reached Hall who also advanced to second on a throw; Laudino scored in this same sequence. Adele Braun singled before the inning ending.  Mercer 7, Iona 2.Â
In the top of the seventh, Sheeran and Kaylin Flukey homered but the Gaels would fall  7-4 to the Bears.Â
Game Two: Mercer 6, Stetson 4Â
A single to the pitcher by Harvey in the bottom of the first would be the first hit for the Bears in their match against the Hatters.Â

At the top of the second, Evette Morgan doubled to left field and advanced to third on a foul ball by Lizzie Schubert. Marissa Baxter homered, scoring Morgan, giving the Hatters an early two- point lead.

The second hit for the Bears would be from Annie Potter in the bottom of the second. Before Potter's single, Grace Prom walked, but the Bears would remain scoreless.Â

Stetson extended their lead in the top of the third with Alyssa Gilman reaching base on an error. A sacrifice bunt by Brianna Clary advanced Gilman to third with a fly ball by Kani Eppley scoring her.Â

The Bears tied the game in the bottom of the third with another single by Harvey getting them on base. Diamond Williams followed suit with a double to right field scoring Harvey. Prom reached base on an error and a walk by Potter loaded the bases. A single by Braun to the shortstop scored Williams and kept the bases loaded. Prom was able to tie the score with a run on a while pitch. Mercer 3, Stetson 3.

Harvey singled for the third time in the bottom of the fourth, but the game remained tied. The fifth inning shared a similar story with a leadoff single from Williams. Williams advanced to second on a passed ball and would be joined by Prom at first because a hit by the pitcher. But again, the inning ended without a score change.Â

Alyssa Woods started the bottom of the sixth with a walk. Woods advanced to second on a passed ball and scored after Kylie Helm singled. Helm reached second on the throw home and scored following three straight walks from Williams, Prom, and Potter. Williams scored on a wild pitch and Braun walked before the end of the inning. Â

In the top of the seventh, Baxter homered, again, putting the game within two but the Hatters would fail to prevail.Â

The Bears will play their last game of the tournament against Stetson tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.Â
