Potter and Williams Hit Homers
Macon, Ga. The Bears completed their 2021-2022 home softball season in a Tuesday night doubleheader against Georgia Southern. The Bears fell in both games but the games were highlighted by Annie Potter hitting her first homerun of the season while Diamond Williams added her fourth.Â
GEORGIA SOUTHERN 17, MERCER 5
Rebeca Laudino would record the first hit of the game for the Bears with a single bunt in the bottom of the fourth. Laudino stole second and advanced to third on a single from Diamond Williams. A ground ball from Tori Hedgecock advanced Williams to second before a double from Annie Potter scored Williams and Laudino. Potter's two RBI allowed the Bears to bring the game within seven, being down by nine before. A double from Adele Braun scored Potter making it a six-point game.

The Eagles extended their lead back to eight before the Bears reached the board again in the bottom of the fifth. Sophie Sumner led off, reaching on an error by the second baseman. A ground ball from Morgan Hall advanced Sumner to second with a single bunt from Laudino advancing Sumner to third. A single from Alyssa Woods scored Sumner. Eagles 11, Bears 4.Â

The Eagles recorded six hits in the top of the sixth, giving themselves a 13-point lead.

Potter led the bottom of the sixth with a homerun, her first of the season.Â
GEORGIA SOUTHERN 6, MERCER 5Â
Laudino would be the first player to record a hit in the second game with a lead off bunt. Laudino stole second and advanced to third before the end of the inning.Â

In the bottom of the third, Tori Ash led off with a single. Madison Headley pinch ran for Ash and advanced to second during Kenlie Harvey's at bat. Headley moved to third with another bunt single from Laudino.

Potter singled to center field in the bottom of the fourth.

The Eagles took a three-point lead in the top of the fifth with a three RBI home run from Janai Conklin. Â

Tori Ash singled in the top of the fifth.Â

The Bears took the lead in the bottom of the sixth starting with the leadoff home run from Williams. Potter earned a walk followed by a single from Morgan Hall. A double from Ash scored Hall and Potter. Kenlie Harvey singled followed by a double from Laudino, scoring Ash and Harvey. Bears 5, Eagles 4.

A home run from Jess Mazur allowed the Eagles to reclaim the lead in the top of the seventh.Â

The Bears would be unable to respond in the bottom of the inning, losing their final home game of the season.Â
Up Next
The Bears will travel for their final conference series to Chattanooga, Tenn. for a weekend of games on Saturday and Sunday.Â
