Bears Go 2-0 at Crimson Classic

Tuscaloosa, AL. – The Mercer softball team went 2-0 on the second day of the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, AL.Â
"Things finally started to click for us. I was very proud of how the entire team competed today after yesterday's disappointment," said head coach Fico." Grace Taylor and Riley Hickok were huge for us in the circle. Rebeca Laudino and Kylie Helm led the charge offensively all day."
How It Happened
GAME THREE, vs Longwood UniversityÂ
    Rebeca Laudino started off the game with a single to right field and made it to third. A fielder's choice after a hit from Lillian Wilkerson finished out the inning with two left on base. Mercer served a three up three down to finish out the first 0-0.Â
    The second and the third inning went 1-2-3 for both teams. Kylie Helm singled to center field to record the second hit of the game. Longwood got nothing done offensively and held Mercer scoreless in the top of the fifth. The Lancers got two on base due to a fielding error and a single to center field but were quickly shut down with a strikeout from Grace Taylor. Laudino picked up another hit to put her on base and a single up the middle from Lillian Wilkerson brought her home. Longwood left two on base on two hits and finished the sixth trailing, 0-1. Parris Wiggs singled to left field and stole to second. Laudino bunted to the picture to bring Wiggs home. Mercer was able to hold in the bottom of the seventh and took the game 2-0.Â

GAME FOUR, vs Robert Morris UniversityÂ
    Kylie Helm stepped into the box and homered to left center to get the first hit and run on the board. Mercer then served a three up three down to close out the first inning. Avery Barton walked and was advanced to second by a SAC bunt from Parris Wiggs. She was able to come all the way home on wild pitches for the Bear's second run. Robert Morris got their first hit of the game and left two on base with no runs scored. Helm doubled to right center, Hedgecock walked, and Sophie Sumner singled to fully juice the bases. A pitching change would not be enough, and Helm walked home. An RBI single from Avery Barton sent Tori Hedgecock for run number four. With the bases still loaded Prom was hit by a pitch to send a run home and Laudino singled to left field to get the score to, 7-0.Â
    RMU singled to bring in two runs at the bottom of the third. The Bears had one hit with one left on base and a three up three down serve to finish the fourth. After two walks Wiggs and Laudino came home on two throwing errors. Robert Morris did not do anything offensively to finish out the fifth. Mercer heated up again in the box with a hit from Wiggs to bring home Sumner who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. Woods then singled for a double RBI. Wiggs was brought home with an error and a RBI from Helm would finish the inning 14-2. Mercer was Robert Morris with two left on base after one hit to mercy rule at the end of the sixth.Â
