
Mercer Rolls To 101-62 Win Over LaGrange In Home Opener

Six Mercer players finished in double figures
MACON, Ga. – Quinton Perkins II led the way offensively with 17 points and five other Mercer players scored in double figures as Mercer cruised to a 101-62 win over LaGrange Wednesday night from Hawkins Arena in the home opener for the Bears.
Mercer went 34-for-79 for 43.0Â percent from the field compared to LaGrange's 27-for-77Â for 35.1 percent. The Bears had 20 assists on its 34 made field goals. Baraka Okojie and Armani Might each had a team high four assists.
Two days after forcing Tennessee into 19 turnovers and getting 15 steals, Mercer's defense continued to cause problems for LaGrange who had 24 turnovers and Mercer had 14 steals.
After Perkins' 17 points, Mighty followed with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go with five rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. For the second consecutive game, Brady Shoulders led Mercer in rebounding with eight boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
Perkins connected on his three of his first four three-point attempts, combined with a jumper from Okojie and Mercer jumped out to a fast 11-0 start. A three-pointer from Tristan Gross followed by a layup from Okojie gave the Bears a 26-6 lead.Â
A layup from Bendji Pierre extended Mercer's lead to 37-15. With under five minutes to play in the first half, Okojie stole the ball and went the other way for a fastbreak dunk to make it 45-20, Bears. Mercer would go into halftime up 56-28 on LaGrange.
2ND HALF
Mercer started the second half fast, going on a 12-4 run out of the break to take a 68-32 lead. Kyle Cuffe Jr. drained a pull up jumper to give the Bears its largest lead of the game at the time at 80-42 with 12 minutes to play.
Cuffe Jr. would later make a three-pointer to give the Bears a 93-57 lead with six minutes to play. The Bears would go deep in their bench in the final six minutes of the game. After scoring his first career points against Tennessee, Braeden Carlsen finished with four points and two assists. Alex Koch scored his first points of the season as well, finishing with four points as the Bears came away with a 101-62 win over LaGrange.
