Binghamton Uses Big 5th Inning To Take Series With Bears
3/15/2025 2:44:00 PM | Softball
MACON – Mercer used a clutch throwing error to take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Binghamton rallied for seven runs of its own in the top of the fifth frame, including six of the unearned variety, to fuel a series-clinching 10-5 win over the Bears on Saturday afternoon at Sikes Field.
Mercer (15-14) tacked up nine or more hits for the third time in the last four games, but mustered just a 1-for-7 clip with runners in scoring position on Saturday, while also stranding seven on the base paths. Conversely, Binghamton (14-9) tacked up 13 hits on the afternoon, including four safeties with the bases loaded.
MU starter Gabby Ellis (5-2) struck out a season-best five batters in 4-2/3 innings pitched, but saddled the loss anyway after yielding all seven runs (six unearned) in the fifth.
