Bears Hit The Road For Rematch With West Georgia

MACON – The Mercer softball team will open up a 5-game road trip on Wednesday when the Bears pack up their show and head to Carrollton to lock horns with West Georgia for the second time this season. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at the University Softball Complex.
Â
Fans unable to make the trip to Carollton can still follow all of the action for free via a live statistics link provided by the UWG athletics department. The game will also be streamed live by the UWG athletics department.
Â
Mercer (15-14) has split its last 10 games and is fresh from a home series with Binghamton in which it dropped the bookends of the set against the visiting Bearcats. The Bears salvaged the series with a 3-1 victory in the nightcap of Friday evening's series-opening doubleheader behind a complete-game outing from sophomore Gabby Ellis.
Â
The Orange & Black is averaging 8.5 hits and 4.0 walks per game across its last four outings, but has stranded 32 runners on the base paths across that span as well. MU has also produced 11 extra-base hits over the last four games as well, led by senior third baseman Tori Hedgecock who belted a pair of home runs in MU's midweek victory at Georgia State last week.
Â
Mercer has been extremely effective from the circle while splitting its last six outings. MU's pitching staff is 3-3 with a 2.73 ERA over that stretch and has 20 batters in 41 innings pitched while yielding just 2.0 walks per game. Ellis and redshirt junior Hannah Pitts have both picked up wins in the middle over the last six contests, while sophomore Grace Roark has held opponents to a paltry .195 batting average in her last 10-2/3 innings pitched.
