Bears Blanked by Ohio State in Saturday Nightcap
3/11/2017 11:07:00 PM | Softball
Mercer falls to 12-14 on the season
ORLANDO, Fla. – Mercer was limited to a trio of singles and was held scoreless in a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Ohio State on Saturday night at the UCF Wilson/DeMarini Tournament at the UCF Softball Complex.
Â
Buckeyes pitcher Shelby Hursh struck out 10 Bears and walked only one en route to her fifth win of the year in the circle. Mercer dropped to 12-14 overall, as hits by Meghan Rud, Taylor Miller and Maxine Rodriguez were not enough to get the momentum started for the Orange and Black.
Â
Rodriguez took the loss in the circle while scattering seven hits over six innings. She struck out five and allowed only three earned runs in the appearance.
Â
The contest was originally scheduled to be played Sunday afternoon, but due to the likely chance of inclement weather in the Orlando area, it was moved to a 7:30 p.m. first pitch Saturday night.
Â
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Like Stella Preston the game prior, Rodriguez did all she could to keep the Bears within striking distance Saturday night. The senior allowed never allowed the Ohio State offensive attack to compound, scattering the four runs over four innings.
