Sysum, Hugas Voted Mercer Student-Athletes Of The Week

MACON – Rachel Sysum matched a program record and Miguel Hugas turned in a career outing to earn Mercer Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending on April 27.
Sysum tied the Mercer softball record with a perfect 5-for-5 performance from the plate with an RBI double and four runs scored in the Bears' series finale against Western Carolina this past Saturday. The redshirt freshman went 8-for-11 (.727) in the batter's box over the entire weekend with two total doubles and five runs to power Mercer to a series win over the Catamounts.
Hugas became the second Mercer baseball pitcher in as many weeks to receive Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week honors after turning in the best outing of his career against Wofford this past Saturday. The junior right-handed pitcher hurled a dominant 7.0 innings with five strikeouts and limited the Terriers to just one run (zero earned) and three hits as the Bears won 5-1.
Sysum and the softball team return to Sikes Field for a three-game series against East Tennessee State this weekend. The series is slated to begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Hugas and the baseball team are on the road for a three-game weekend series against conference rival Samford. First pitch for Friday, May 1 is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
